Artist In Residence
From September 2022 to July 2023, I worked as Artist In Residence at St Joesph's Specalist Trust.
I worked 1 to 1 with special educational needs students to create puppets, shows, videos, and much more. This job also allowed me to spend time developing my own practice as a puppeteer and puppet maker.
The amalgamation of the years work was a delightful exhibition hosted at Cranleigh Arts Centre. It now exists in a digital format so the legacy of these collaborations can live on forever!
As a Parting gift I built a puppet with help from the entire school. I created a sensory survey where the kids could choose the colour, fabric, and facial features. As a school they voted for red fur, a long nose, and big eyes!
Once the puppet was made, we unveiled it at a puppet film festival we hosted at the school.
In February 2024 I visited the school to catch up with the students, and it became clear how important the Artist In Residence Initiative is for the students, both creatively and academically!
